One of my ongoing concerns is my complete lack of objectivity about my own child. For example, the above photo - I think it's pretty cute. At least as cute as some of the babies pictured on the packaging of Brennan's toys. But is it really? Is the boy missing out on a lucrative baby modeling career, or am I just insane?
Luckily, Brennan has more important things to worry about. He's working on sitting, sort of. I prop him up and wait a few minutes while he wilts to the side or forward. Now I see where the yoga "child's pose" comes from.
He also had a visit from his Uncle Gavin. We took Uncle Gavin wine tasting, because that's what we do with out-of-town guests. However, Brennan was also working on his middle-of-the-night screaming technique that week, so maybe we should have taken Gavin Xanax tasting instead. We also considered leaving Bren to be raised by wolves, but the Dry Creek Valley is a little short on wolf packs.
Luckily, the screaming thing has passed - for now. I hope the bottles of wine I passed out to the neighbors earns some forgiveness, or at the very least, helps them sleep the next time...
Bren's also showing more interest in food, although he's a pretty inefficient eater. It's kind of like spackling - you shove some paste in the hole, smear it around, scrape off the excess and try to shove it in again. Initially, I thought I was doing something wrong, but have been assured by some other moms that all babies eat like this.
He still likes lying on the floor with some toys, kicking and blowing spit bubbles. Laika finds the blanket and toys on the floor very appealing, and while he doesn't exactly shove the baby out of the way, he stays pretty close and waits for his chance.
Here's his 5 mos. picture on the couch. I'm a little late in posting it, but our internet service has been crap for weeks and I never know when it's going to quit on me. There were a couple of Comcast vans on our street yesterday, so I'm hoping they changed some switches or waved their magic wands or something.
