The planets aligned a few weeks ago and we found ourselves up early on a pretty Saturday morning and had nothing in particular we had to do. So off we went to the Ferry Building, on a quest for fava beans and chilaquiles. Also it was "Goat Fest" and there was a promise of baby goats to pet. Since "goat" is one of Brennan's dozen words, we sort of had to go. In addition to the goats, Bren liked running around on the Pier, watching the water, and his strawberry agua fresca.
Everything looks so pretty there, it's hard not to way more food than we can possibly cook before it goes bad. It can even be hard to resist buying stuff I know I'm not crazy about, like this red & yellow chard -
or stuff we have plenty of already, like olive oil -
It's also nice just to walk along the Embarcadero, and check out the palm trees, views of the bay, and the old street cars from all over the world.
Brennan prefers to take it all in at higher speeds if possible - like when Daddy runs with the stroller.
I've also been busy looking into pre-school options the past few weeks. Brennan's cousin will be starting soon - luckily, the nanny we have been sharing is able to keep watching Brennan on the days I work. However, it gave me the push to start checking out my options. I know what you're thinking - what do you mean, pre-school? Isn't it a little early, since he isn't even two yet?
Well, apparently, it's never too early to start checking out pre-schools in San Francisco. And putting in an application, so you'll be high enough on the wait list that your kid may actually get in while he's still pre-school age. At this point, I'd suggest starting about a year before you think you might be pregnant. The worst part is that I was warned, but it sounded so preposterous I didn't believe it. I thought it was just hysteria about getting into the "right" preschool whipped up by over-protective parents. Which to a certain extent it is, I guess - if I wanted to drive 15 minutes out of my way to the Outer Richmond to put Bren in school in some Russian lady's basement, we could start tomorrow. My problem is that I would like to find a place close to work, and I work in a pretty ritzy neighborhood, coincidentally, where many of the "right" preschools are located.
These pics from bath time have nothing to do with pre-schools, of course, but at least provide a cute distraction from the rant I am so nearly on brink of launching into. Maybe next time.
