The Graduate

In June, we had 2 important rites of passage, as new participants in the San Francisco public school system -
First, a random furlough day!  Mommy had somehow overlooked the warning email, so she was scrambling to find childcare with just a few days notice.  Luckily, Lucie's preschool had an opening that day, so Brennan got to back to Kangaroos and spend the day with her.
Here they are, ready for their big day of going to school together.  We were actually a little early - it's amazing how much faster my morning routine goes when I only have one stop before work.  And if I actually get my act together and pack lunches the night before.

Our other important school day was Preschool Graduation!

Here's the Grattan Early Education Center 105A graduating class.  Sort of.  Some of them are actually staying in preschool another year.

The class all came out on stage and performed the songs they've been working on all spring.  They did "You Are My Sunshine", "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands", "Five Little Monkeys", plus 2 more I can't remember.  It was really cute.  Over the course of the performance, 3 kids were overcome with stage fright and left the stage in tears, and a little surprisingly, Brennan wasn't one of them.
I love how the little girls are all wearing their prettiest dresses, while Brennan and his best buddies Enzo & Sebastien are sporting hoodies and baseball caps.

And here's his school graduation photo, complete with diploma.  They sent these home after the ceremony.  Bonus points to anyone who can tell me what the yellow shape cut-out is supposed to be.
Congratulations, Brennan!

I'd love to say we celebrated by going straight from the ceremony to ride the carousel in Golden Gate Park, but these pics were from a week or two prior.  In reality, I walked him over to Walgreen's to get a treat, because I needed to buy pediatric benadryl to give to Lucie prior to her dentist appointment that afternoon.  He chose Oreos.  Then he had to go back to school, so I could take Lucie for her pediatric root canal.  If that kid keeps falling on her mouth, Daddy's dental plan is going to drop her.
Holding your kid down while she gets a pulpotomy isn't easy, even if your profession involves restraining struggling small creatures who don't understand you're doing this for their own good.  So I soothed my guilt by taking her on a special Lucie-only trip to the Discovery Museum -

We went up to Corte Madera and got a cupcake, too.  And no, she wouldn't be bought with one of those mini-cupcakes.  It had to be full size.  With a flower.  She licked off all the frosting, took a few mouse nibbles of the cake part, and handed over the wreckage with a cheery, "Here, Mommy!"
Roux got to have her own day out, too - we celebrated the first day of summer with a long walk at Crissy Field.  It was actually quite summer-like, which is kind of strange for this time of year, but we weren't complaining -
