Winter Round Up

We had special visitors arrive right after Christmas - Grambo & Grandpa Uwe!
We took them to play at the Discovery Museum - Lucie & Grandpa stacked up all the rubber sea-stars, and Brennan and Grambo hunted for treasure.  They all spent the day together on Dec. 31st while Mommy & Daddy went to work (thanks for the in-a-pinch childcare!) and read lots of books, played with toys, and sweet-talked their way into a trip to the Ice Cream Bar.
Brennan and Lucie also wanted to show them the Zoo - especially the train, and they especially wanted their grandparents to ride with them.
We also spent the holiday break visiting friends, and seeing what they got for Christmas.  Lucie particularly liked Enzo's new Star Wars gear:
We also spent our break doing useful things, like going to the dentist.  Here's a rare moment of peace, with Brennan & Lucie sharing an iPad while they wait for Dr. David.  Now that Lucie's stopped falling on her mouth every 3 weeks, we had a nice routine visit and everyone's teeth were OK.

We made a trip up to Corte Madera, too.  Why?  I don't remember, it was 3 months ago.  I do remember the kids liked the elephant fountain, and that Lucie begged for a fancy cupcake, only to lick off the frosting and hand me the carcass.  Like always.  Why do I fall for it every time?
We took down the Christmas tree on the Epiphany, which conveniently fell the day before our street's garbage day.

We made Daddy go with us to the Academy of Science on a rainy Sunday, since we can get in an hour early with our membership.
As luck would have it, it was also one of the quarterly free days, which means people were already lining up when we arrived for members' only hour.  We hustled to see our favorite stuff before the doors opened, spent a little time in the playroom, and then tried to hit the cafeteria for an early lunch.  Guess what?  It was packed!
I spy a family who's going to eat in the Moss Room, the semi-swanky sit-down restaurant in the basement of the museum.

It was a pretty mild winter (perhaps you've heard about the drought? - instead of falling into the ocean during the next big earthquake, California may simply dry up and blow away...), so we had plenty of opportunities to kick off our shoes and go crazy at the playground.
Brennan FINALLY got his turn to be "Student of the Week" for room 101.  He made an "All About Me" poster, with his favorite food (miso soup), favorite school activity (free choice play), what he wants to do when he grows up (drive a Ford Mustang), and someone he looks up to (Daddy).  He got to sit in front of the class and call on his friends to ask questions or share.  More or less, the boys all asked when they could have a play date, and the girls all said, "I love you".
Brennan had a fun trip to Santa Cruz Boardwalk with his buddy Enzo.  We didn't get to go along, but have heard reports that they went on some rides, won goofy looking stuffed monsters, and ate a lot of junk.  Poor Lucie felt pretty left out - there were some big tears rolling down those cheeks - but she cheered up when she realized she had Mommy & Daddy all to herself...AND got to go to Healdsburg for the day.  We were feeling guilty enough that she got to boss us around all day - insisting on eating lunch at the Coppola Winery Restaurant, when we'd just stopped in to see the pool -
- saying hello to every cat at Preston -
- and enjoying a fountain-side lollipop while hogging the seat.

Poor Daddy was wiped out from a long day of cheering up Lulu Bean.  But I think it worked.
