Remember what I said about paying more attention to the monkey picking pretend bugs out of Brennan's hair at the Disney Parade?
THEY WERE REAL.
1. Early dismissal from school with Daddy.
2. Harried internet research on the life cycle & habits of the louse and numerous CDC abstracts on effective treatment. I am now the resident lice expert at work. Anything you'd like to know?
3. Begging - and receiving! - a prescription for ivermectin lotion from the pediatrician, thus keeping Mommy from going all country vet and making up her own at work.
4. Checking everyone for bugs & nits, and applying ivermectin to Patient Zero (Brennan) and his infectee (Lucie).
5. Discovering there's a reason those nit-combing services charge such exorbitant rates.
6. Imprisoning every single stuffed animal in a plastic bag prior to taking 24 hour shifts in the freezer.
7. A lot of laundry. I mean, A LOT.
In other news -
Lucie finally got her turn with Share Bear at preschool - she'd been talking about it for weeks! Share Bear came home on Friday with a bag of outfits and a journal, to which we added a page of his weekend adventures with us.
Brennan ran in the Grattan Fun Run - the kids run the block around the school and playground as a fundraiser. Brennan ran around 8 times without stopping, which is something like 2 miles!
He also learned about the Civil Rights Movement at school.
We celebrated Easter with the 2nd Annual Back Courtyard Egg Hunt:
After enjoying a fair amount of candy, we hit the Zoo for the Earth Day Party. Lucie & Bren demanded a train ride with Daddy, and then we decided to check out the new playground. This is as close as we got to seeing any actual animals:
The new playground IS pretty awesome:
And special bonus, the Nestle Quick Bunny was there, handing out free chocolate milk.
CHEERS!
We capped off the afternoon with a carousel ride -
Brennan also learned about Earth day and the environment at school, the highlight of which was a trip to Crissy Field, on one of those freak hot days where the fog goes on vacation and suddenly it's 85. The rangers took us on a nature walk - we found a lot of bugs, and learned to identify poison oak. Then we walked down to the fishing pier and met some crabs.
A week or so later, I was waiting outside the classroom before chaperoning to the park, and learned the important take home lesson about What the Earth Gives Us, courtesy of Bren's classmate:
Thank you, Earth, for the bacon. (also the water & trees & sunshine)
