Pizza Party and Vail

Now that Lucie's is in kindergarten, we decided it was finally time to let her have a big, let's-invite-the-whole-class birthday party.  Of course, with a birthday 3 days before Christmas, having that party on or around her actual birthday presents some challenges.  So, a month later, it was party time:

The delay didn't dampen her enthusiasm one bit.  She helped frost and decorate the cake, and then we were off to the event - a pizza making party at Destination Art in North Beach.  They also covered their faces in flour, made cookies, decorated little paper bags with mountains of glitter, and ran around like wild animals.

The really genius thing about a cooking party is that it provides the entertainment and the meal in one easy step.  Toss the cookies they just baked into the bags they just decorated and there's the goody bag to go.  I effectively outsourced all the labor to a roomful of kindergarteners.

Next up: our annual celebration of Lunar New Year.  Since it's not a common school holiday in other parts of the country, we've discovered it's a pretty good time for an off-peak ski trip to Vail.

Our first 2 days were a little colder than we expected - around 5 degrees on our first runs.  Luckily it started to warm up right around the time that Daddy invested in new gloves for Brennan and Lucie.

The kids have gotten good enough that we only forced one day of ski school on them, enough to push them to the next level (4? 4+? While very important to them the level system is a little hard for me to follow) But the extra special bonus of getting good enough to skip school?  Getting to tear it up with buddies Audrey and Grace when they arrived for the weekend!

One of the awesomest parts of a day skiing at Vail is ending it at with warm cookies at the club. And maybe a glass or 2 of wine for your parents....

And Lucie continued her streak of losing and swallowing baby teeth while on vacation.

The kids loved the gondola, the slolam race, the tow bar to the slalom, racing each other, the terrain parks for kids, and accidentally skiing into a short black diamond.  And I loved seeing them have such a good time and bring the whining to a record minimum.

We capped off our trip with the Second Annual This Is Stupid Expensive Bowling Tourney.  Daddy was once again the winner, but Lucie claimed the Most Improved title.  She was generally able to get her ball down the lane and there was no collapsing in tears on the sofa.
